How to: Squat Mechanics 101

Squat Mechanics 101

When Squatting, a few important things you should keep in the back of your head!

  1. Your feet
    1. Your feet are key – keep the arch of your foot active.
    2. Try to spread the floor, as in try to tear the floor inhalf under you by pushing outwards.
  2. Your knees
    1. Keep your knees out! We are looking at making them go over our ring ‘finger’ toe.
    2. It is OKAY for your knees to go over your toes AS LONG as your heels are flat!
  3. Your torso
    1. Keep it as vertical as possible! This will minimize stress on your lower back.
    2. There is such thing as low-bar squatting – this is for anything to do with a front loading. We 99/100 times here at BSP will be in this position –  your coaches will notify you if the one variation comes into play where the rules bend slightly!
  4. Your eyes
    1. Keep them looking forward – your chest follows your eyes, meaning if you look down, you are going to lean over!
