Good Afternoon all! Figured I would make a quick little blurb about the mentioned above before I head in for some Friday evening torture, I mean sweat!
Many people know how Consistency and Progress go hand and hand, however how many practice it?
Everyone has goals they want to reach – the hard part is actually getting there. You can have the want to reach a goal or progress, but without actions required to reach that goal, you will not reach it. To put it outside of the fitness world – you may want to go on vacation each year, but if you do not set aside some money each paycheck, when vacation time comes, you will not be able to go.
Many of you have heard my term “What have you deposited this week”? Ask yourself – did you come into the gym on a regular basis? What about that nutrition at home? How about resting enough?
You must have a consistent pattern of training, eating and resting in order to progress. If you are frustrated with your results, take a serious look at those three areas. If you have all 3 on lock down 90% of the time and still not seeing progress, you need to approach me and let us tackle what is holding you back. It could be you need more training, or maybe even less in some circumstances! It could be that you actually need to eat more. Or there could be an underlying issue (ie. medical issues) that we need adjust your routines around to progress.
If you do not have all 3, or none, on lock down, you should reset your patterns and make time for your health. If you take care of your body now, it will take care of you later, especially as we get older. Set some time to go buy some healthy food and do a quick and easy crock-pot meal prep. Set 2-4 hours a week to exercise. Make sure you are in bed at a specific time each night. If you can get that 90% right, you will see some nice results.
Now – quick story. When trying to build my bench press when I was competing in Power Lifting, I was stuck at 375 for almost 9 months. I tried everything and it wasn’t moving. Then one day I hit 405 for ease. It was random and unexpected – but it happened. Sometimes progress just takes time as well once you reach a certain point in your training.
You must enjoy the process. Working out is not like ‘having a diet to lose weight’ – it is a life style change.
And a side note – intensity does matter when training. We will discuss that another time!
