What got you interested in fitness?
As I approached my thirties I realized I could no longer eat trash every day without gaining weight. I learned about nutrition, changed my eating habits, and took up running. I ended up joining a gym and getting a trainer to learn more about strength training. It was originally to lose a few lbs but ultimately to find a healthier lifestyle.

2. How do you find/make time to get your workouts in?
During the week I drop my son off at daycare at 7:30 and then head to the gym for the 8:00am class. I prefer to get my workouts in early and be done (at least with the strength portion) for the day. It has just become part of my routine and I am past the “I don’t wanna” stage. I only have that small window of time before work and so there is no procrastinating. Side note: Mad props to the 5:00am crew… I would need a caffeine IV all day!

3. Do you have a/any tip(s) for newer people who are just getting into workouts?
Don’t compare yourself to others. I struggle with this often as I feel that I should be stronger or faster at a specific exercise. We are all at different levels, ages, etc. There is no judgment! Go slow and focus on form and don’t worry about where other people are in their workout.

4. What is your current workout routine?
I hit the 8:00am class four times during the week and sometimes try to hit a weekend class when possible. I work from home and I try to move as much as possible throughout the day. I end up doing a lot of house walking. I look stupid walking around in circles but it helps! Every hour I try to get up and move.. jog in place, house walk, <a aria-describedby="tt" href="http://burrstrength.com/p/glossary/pushup/" class="glossaryLink" data-cmtooltip="
Pushup

On your toes, bring your chest to the floor then push back up.
" >pushups, something.

5. What is your favorite part of fitness? Your least favorite?
The best part is how I feel when done. It may just be that delirious “I’m alive!” feeling after a brutal class or maybe you realize that the weights seem a little lighter than last time.. there is always a sense of accomplishment. I may be hard on myself but I can still recognize the positive changes as they are happening and that feels great. My least favorite is the physical toll it can sometimes take. Injuries can happen and we just have to find a way to work through it or work around it.

6. What is your next/current fitness goal?
I am still working toward the <a aria-describedby="tt" href="http://burrstrength.com/p/glossary/pullup/" class="glossaryLink" data-cmtooltip="
Pullup

Grabbing a bar, pull your chin over the bar.
" >pullups without using a band. The bands and the bar are getting easier and so I feel like I am close! We are also learning to climb the rope. Climbing doesn’t seem too hard until you are too high up to jump down. So my next goal is to feel strong enough to climb up and back down and NOT slide down in a blaze of glory.

7. How has Burr Strength and Performance helped you on your fitness Journey?
A lot of the exercises that we do in class seem intimidating at first. The classes are designed to teach as well as train so I find myself doing more than I thought I would. The trainers always push me to do more, which I need. There is no, “I can’t do that.” I had tendinitis in my Achilles which kept me limited for a while but there was always a workaround. When we have limitations the trainers are always able to offer an alternative and so I have never felt left behind in the group. I am stronger now, in my forties, than I had ever been before.

8. What is your favorite class you take?

Definitely Bootcamp. It is a good mix of cardio and strength and the workouts vary daily so it never gets boring. Honestly, I prefer any class where I don’t have to do 350 <a aria-describedby="tt" href="http://burrstrength.com/p/glossary/burpee/" class="glossaryLink" data-cmtooltip="
Burpee

From a standing position, hands to floor, kick feet back, bring chest to floor, push back up, bring feet up then stand up and jump.
" >burpees.
